Julian Perretta

Ok, so a couple months ago, my brother told me about this singer. Julian Perretta is a British singer, who gained popularity through blogging websites. He signed a contract with Columbia Records last year, and his debut album is coming out this summer. His music is a mix of pop and soul, which makes him stand out from the crowd.

El Tambor de la Tribu

El tambor de la Tribu is yet another Guatemalan band. Their first CD was released in 2004, and their song Skalavera was an immediate hit. Their music is a mix between Rock, Soul, Reggae, Ska, and latin music like Cumbia, Vallenato mixed with some other Caribbean sounds. The fusion of all these sounds make their music very unique.

I decided that this month I'm going to support Guatemalan talent. Malacates Trebol Shop is another successful Guatemalan band and they just released this new song, De Que Sirve Querer? (What is love good for?). Malacates has always been characterized by their innovative mix of rock, ska, and pop music. Viento en Contra is a rock band from Guatemala who started as many other bands, a group of friends getting together and playing instruments. They started to play locally, but a few years ago the band members decided to take their music to Mexico. Nowadays, they are in the top places of popularity in the Guatemalan and Mexican radios.

Tiembla el Suelo (the ground is shaking) is the song they are promoting from their newest album Casino. Unfortunately, I only found this one song, but they have many other GREAT songs!!!

Bonita by Andres Cabas

I found his new CD at the library and I liked it! Andres Cabas is a colombian singer who has been out for a while and has some other CD's, but he changed his style a little in this new album and now his music sounds more refreshed. In this CD Cabas included a duet with Cuban hip-hop band Orishas (he pecado), I think it was an interesting and unusual mix between bolero and hip-hop.
I've included some of his new songs (bonita and he pecado) and some of his old ones so you can hear the different styles between them. Enjoy!!!

Strong Enough by Kina

I found out about Kina one night when I was looking for a video on YouTube. She has a lot of song covers and she also has her own songs. The second I heard her I loved her voice and her music. She is currently on the studio recording her new CD. You can find some of her older songs in iTunes or in the website. I think she gained popularity through YouTube, filming herself every week singing a new song.
Kina is from Southern California, and some of ther songs have been featured in the TV show General Hospital.

Breath Me by SIA

My friend introduced me to this song on the weekend. The music is kind of melancholic and the lyrics sad, but I think what I liked about this song is the way how the music develops throughout the 4 minutes. Sia starts singing only accompanied by a piano, then you start noticing that more instruments are being added gradually, and then at the end there is a music solo, where all the instruments create a very interesting melody.

Never Think by Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson is a british actor, model and singer, who has become incredible famous after his roll in Twilight as Edward Cullen. Last night I came across an interview where he mentioned that he also liked singing. After finding out that two of his songs where actually included in the Twilight Movie Soundtrack, I went to look for them. I was surprised that I actually liked his style, I wasn't really expecting it. He has a very interesting voice, it's very different from other singers, and I think that's one of the reasons why I liked him. Another reason is the melody of the songs, he is accompanied only by a guitar and that makes the song feel very intimate.

Dejame Vivir by Jarabe de Palo

Jarabe de Palo is a Latin Rock band originated in Spain. Pau Donés is the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter. Some of the most famous songs from this band are La Flaca, Grita, Depende, Agua, Bonito.
The guest singer in this song is Mari De Chambao. The title of this song means Let me Live, and, basically, that is what the song says: Let me live free like the air.
One of the reasons why I like Jarabe de Palo is because even though they are a rock band, they have a flamenco fusion in their song, which makes them sound different and refreshed.

You Found Me by The Fray

Here I go, my first post on this new blog!
This afternoon I driving to the bank when I heard this song on the radio. It was the first time I've heard it, but I needed to know who sang it! I just loved it. Luckily enough, they said the name of the song and the band!
I've heard The Fray before, I used to love their 'How to Save a Life' song. I just didn't know that they had released another album already!
I think what made me like this song since the first time I heard it is the emotion I can hear on the voice of the singer.
The first thing I did when I got home was to look up the lyrics. I was confuse about the part when he says "just a little late, you found me, you found me." So I went to Wikipedia to see if there was a explanation, and surely there was one!

"You Found Me is a tough song for me. Its about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life. Sometimes you’re let down, sometimes you’re the one who lets someone else down. It gets hard to know who you can trust, who you can count on. This song came out of a tough time, and I’m still right in the thick of it. There’s some difficult circumstances my family and friends have been going through over the past year or so and can be overwhelming. It wears on me. It demands so much of my faith to keep believing, keep hoping in the unseen. Sometimes the tunnel has a light at the end, but usually they just look black as night. This song is about that feeling, and the hope that I still have, buried deep in my chest."

After reading the meaning of the song, it made sense the amount of emotions I could hear on the singer's voice as he was singing it, and he really transmits it, or, at least, I can really feel it.

Challenges and Goals

What challenges can a person have when creating a new blog? Well, I think one of mine is to try to keep the entries interesting for my readers. This obviously depends on the focus of your blog and the interest of the visitors, still, one of my goals is to keep my blog fun for everyone, regardless of the subject.
